The light field is a core concept in imaging science. The light field fully defines how a scene appears. It is the amount of light traveling in every direction through every point in space – it includes all the light rays in a scene. Light field cameras unleash capabilities that were never before possible with conventional 2D digital cameras. Focusing a picture after it’s taken, re-orienting the scene by shifting the perspective view, and even switching between 2D and 3D views are all made possible through light field technology.
Ascension University will have course offerings surveying the science involved and We Rock Your World now features this exciting technology in our Marketplace. Lytro, a company founded by Ren Ng, is shipping pocket sized point-and-shoot light field cameras. We have several accessories and components to help you explore this exciting field of endeavor.
